How do I remove sales tax from a total?
Divide the total by (1 + tax rate). Example: $108 total ÷ 1.08 = $100 pre-tax price. The tax is $108 - $100 = $8.
What states have no sales tax?
Oregon, Montana, New Hampshire, Delaware, and Alaska have no statewide sales tax. Note that some Alaska municipalities charge local sales tax.
How do I find the sales tax rate?
Tax = After-Tax Total − Pre-Tax Price. Rate = Tax ÷ Pre-Tax Price × 100. Use our "Find Tax Rate" mode to calculate this.
