Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between mean, median, and mode?
Mean = sum ÷ count (arithmetic average). Median = middle value when sorted (resistant to outliers). Mode = most frequently occurring value. Use median when data has extreme outliers (e.g. incomes).
Can there be multiple modes?
Yes. If two or more values tie for the highest frequency, all are modes (bimodal, trimodal, etc.). If all values appear equally often, there is no mode.
