What is ABSD?
Additional Buyer's Stamp Duty (ABSD) is a tax imposed on purchases of residential properties in Singapore, in addition to the standard Buyer's Stamp Duty (BSD). It was introduced in 2011 to cool the property market and has been revised multiple times.
What are the 2023 ABSD rates?
From 27 April 2023: Singapore Citizens: 0% (1st), 20% (2nd), 30% (3rd+). PRs: 5% (1st), 30% (2nd+). Foreigners: 60% (any). Entities: 65%. These are the highest ABSD rates since it was introduced.
What is BSD?
Buyer's Stamp Duty applies to all property purchases: 1% on first S$180K, 2% on next S$180K, 3% on next S$640K, 4% on next S$500K, 5% on next S$1.5M, 6% on remainder. BSD is payable regardless of buyer profile.
Can PRs claim ABSD remission?
Yes. A married couple with at least one Singapore Citizen can claim ABSD remission on their first jointly-purchased property if they sell their existing property within a set timeframe. Check IRAS for specific conditions.
